A few fun things

oh cool.. that readers digest book looks really interesting!
It is! It's out of print, I believe, but there are plenty of used copies floating around. I got a copy that's supposed to be in reasonably good shape, and it will go right on my nightstand next to the collected Jane Austen -- I need something fun but soothing to fall asleep to, you know? Something that can take many re-readings because I tend to re-read the same book for years, for bedtime purposes (if I read something new in bed I have to finish it, which means I don't sleep). Anyway...I'm happy.
cool.. ok, i guess i can get a used one. but it sounds like a useful book to have.. maybe not something i'd save for bed-time reading.. but thats just me. :P

Oh me... I had the biggest crush on Speed Racer. Except he seemed kind of dumb. And Trixie needed to be slapped.

My pooter took a powder in the middle of Naomi Wolf's presentation so I'm going back to it. I'm pretty sure I heard her in some NPR interview (I listen in the car and I'm always driving someplace it seems). That's a liberry book for sure!

The synonym book looks great! I have a hard time figuring out which words to use so I default to "thingie" most of the time.
As I recall, it's not a book for kids who are looking to win the spelling bee by learning as many obscure 24-carat SAT words as possible... But if you want to know the exact right word to use in a given context -- why disgust and not repulse, why annoy and not irritate, why entice and not invite -- this is the book. I wonder if it will be as much fun as I remember!

I never watched Speed Racer because my mother hated it. She kept complaining that these kids didn't have any parents or something or other. Sounds like I didn't miss much! Ha!

RE: cartoons with no parents - I personally hated Scooby Doo because they never gave you all the clues you needed to solve the day's mystery. Fuckers.

Technically they have parents, but I think I know what your mom meant. Plus -- this was back when characters could still actually die in the course of an episode. I think we counted about 50 racers blown up within a single storyline, once. Kind of wacky.

The Reader's Digest and the Wolf book look rather interesting. And you're right, I am proud you're finally getting to Harry Potter! Are you planning on re-reading the whole series?

Hooray! I am starting on my 6th time through HP.

Not wacky or anything, though.

I have never gotten into Harry Potter. So, you aren't the only one! I find grammar books amusing...I've wanted to get Eats, Shoots and Leaves and Mother Tongue for awhile, but haven't, lol. I will one day. I love getting new books!

I've never read a HP book or seen a movie either.

I like that synonym book. Will you bring it to the Amy'Zon Academy for Etiquette and Shit for me to peruse?

I've never read a HP book or seen a movie either.

Are you serious?! That is so cool. I kind of wish I could claim that...

And I will share choice snippets from the synonym book with y'all one way or another, I promise.
me neither, cranky. we're all iconoclastic and shit.

Are you serious?!

Me three, though I saw about 10 minutes of one of the movies back in December, on TV.
