Jeez they just never stop.

You still planning on going tech-nekkid when you go back home?

OMG, I NEED one of these, and so do you, IG!!!
oh e! I know! it is the size of a portable DVD player, but it's got a real type-able keyboard... it's awesome! i want it so much. I have been walking around looking for things I can sell to raise a quick $400... I wonder how long it would take Mr. IG to notice I've pawned some of his collectibles? *shifty eyes*
Hee. I don't really need this, but I sure would like one. But you really NEED it.
A friend of mine has a still-functional old IBM Workpad - he says he gets 8 hours of battery life on a single charge on that thing. It is an amazing machine, with a fabulous keyboard (important). I was tempted to buy one on eBay a few months ago, but the one I was watching finally sold for over $300, which seemed a bit much for a machine running Windows CE. In the end it was wrong for me, just a little too antiquated, but all you had to do was hold the thing to know that this was a great product. I remember telling my friend that someone really needed to get a clue and pick up where the IBM Workpad left off...

So, yeah, the Asus EEE is aimed squarely at dorks like me, for sure. Viva la revolucion! I may not be buying a smartphone, now...oh noes...
I would SO ditch a smartphone for the Asus EE, but then, I'm not big on phones. I even use a cell that *only* works as a phone (well, text, too, plus a browser, if I chose to use it, but I don't touch either).
I just added a pic of the new spring colors to the post... they're so cute! But word is, you can't use Skype with the Asus EEE. Not sure why. That's kind of a bummer.
What about Gizmo Project or Yahoo? Or Jajah?
I haven't heard...just saw a random mention of the Skype problem on a board somewhere. I'll let you know if I turn up anything on the others though. :-)
Please do! You've really been Googling, haven't you? [sly grin]
[this is good]
IG, you must find that money. This is the machine you've been looking for.
Well, it seems that at least some reviewers have successfully Skyped on it. Oooh... *lust lust lust*
Heh...just for the record, I was having second thoughts earlier this week, before I stumbled across this Asus EEE thing. I still don't feel like hauling my laptop across the three airports. But this is different...

I need to have a garage sale, that's all. Any tips? I got lots of crap in the garage that I could sell. Lots. Mr. IG would never have to know! :-P
Or you could cart your laptop along.... [tee hee.]
[this is good]
omg, cute colors! Fits in a coat pocket! It's perfect!
See! I knew you would understand, LM. :-)

Word is, the 8GB version (with 1 GB RAM) will ship in the spring. The nice thing about it, that's maybe worth waiting for, is that it will reportedly have a 10" screen (vs. 7") -- without increasing the overall size of the device. This is possible because of the side bezels; i.e. the current 7" version doesn't make full use of its real estate.

However--the 8GB version will apparently not be available in the cute colors. Nuts!
wow, the 8GB/10'' version might be worth it, even without the cute colors. And I'd have until the spring to acquire $400 (through whatever means possible).
Yes, the 8GB/10" version would still be quite cute in white. :-)
Oh...if you're planning ahead (bank robberies and so forth) you should plan on raising $430-$450 for the 8GB/10" version, not $400. There will almost certainly be a small bump up in price for bigger memory and screen. Me, I don't care...I will sell donuts and cupcakes online if I have to. *wipes drool from chin*
You and me both, sister! ;P
it would match my ipod!

The most logical way for me to acquire the money would be to get a job... but I'm not quite that desperate yet. :P
Well now, that's just crazy talk!
tee hee hee.
You are an evil child, IG, creating gadget lust where there was none. The problem is that all the colors look so pretty together. I'll stick with my stick-in-the-mud Dell Inspiron for a while longer and then...I'm almost a Mac convert. Close, very close, but not quite yet.
Oh but the pretty blue one would look so cute next to chocolately Buz and b/w Sophie! :-D
See? That's what I mean. The blue one would look perfect next to Buz. I'm partial to b/w and pink as a combo--tres retro--so if I sat with Sophie, I'd have to use the pink one... you know...one must look goood at all times. ;-)
Ohhh. Yeah, I see that. Oopsy.

But at these prices you could get one of each color! (You knew I was going to say that.)

.I'm almost a Mac convert. Close, very close, but not quite yet.

"Upgrade" to Vista and you will be!!!!

Aw, ech, Vista, sorry. Can you "downgrade" back to XP? I hear lots of people are doing it...

When I got my current laptop at the beginning of the year, it was on sale because Vista was just about to be released. My coworker Mark had been testing Vista for months, so I asked him whether I should wait for the Vista machines to come out, or just take advantage of the sale prices on the XP laptops. His advice was to grab the XP laptop and run. I still have a "free Vista upgrade" CD lying around somewhere. A shiny new drink coaster.
I'm not going to try, because I don't have any computer geek friends here, and if anything goes wrong, I'd be stuck.

Actually there are a lot of good things in Vista, but they're all stolen from Apple's more recent OSes. The stupid stuff - of which there's plenty - is, of course, all Microsoft's idea.
Sorry to say that's what I've heard about Vista too. Thus the "upgrade" in quotes, my dear e?!

Hey, while I have you two on the line... Bunny questions. Buz has been marking the sofa like crazy. He pee'd on me this morning. Hours later he pee'd on the sofa. I got his little butt into the cage before he could let the whole shpiel out. So many things have changed, I can't begin to figure out what's going on in his head: I rearranged the living room; I flipped the cushions on the sofa; and Sophie. If it were Sophie, I'd think he'd mark everywhere. If it were the furniture, I'd think he'd mark everywhere. Cushions? Your thoughts?

Well, you changed the entire layout of his territory, and then flipped the cushions (so previous "it's mine" scent marking isn't there), and then Sophie has been on the couch and... I wonder if you sit on the couch a whole lot? if so, maybe he's trying to tell you that you're his, and so is your couch?

Maybe either put a plastic tablecloth on it for now, or a litterbox, or both?

What does Auntie C have to say?
Unrelated to the specific marking question, but I was curious about the furniture rearrangement. Did you do that for Sophie's sake? I assumed it was somehow related to her arrival; are you trying to divvy up available play space between the two kids?

About the couch...I'm thinking it's related to Sophie, not just the furniture rearrangement. Indy is always very curious when we move things around, but it's never disturbing enough to her to mark like Buz is doing. What's the story on the couch, is it your special place? If it's where you (and Buz) spend quality time together, the excessive marking of it would make sense. Flipping the cushion on the day that Sophie arrived might have led Buz to make a mental connection between the two. So...if he can make the cushion smell the same as it did before, he reaffirms his primacy in the household.

Ha. Jinx!
Nooo - great minds think alike! ;P
As far as the couch goes, is a plastic cover going to help? I mean, it'll protect the couch, but t won't reassure Buz. The litterbox is maybe an option, but man, I wouldn't do it with Indy. She'd dig around ferociously the way she does, and litter would scatter everywhere.

Jaypo--is flipping the cushion back to the way it was before an option? Just until Buz is feeling more secure? Not sure that would halt the marking, but...
I think you're right re. flipping the cushion as a 1st option... see, I've never had this happen here. N. has never pooped on the couch or chairs. she seems to view them as spaces to explore, but - I'm guessing - she doesn't care all that much about them. Her marking has been confined to the floor, and to my bed (back when I would allow her on it for a few minutes of running around, that is - she can't not poop and pee on the bed. It's just too much temptation for one little bun!)
gotta run out--I'll be back w/comments and answers

Well, you changed the entire layout of his territory, and then flipped the cushions (so previous "it's mine" scent marking isn't there),

...which is why I think it's probably the cushion flip.

and then Sophie has been on the couch and...

Sophie hasn't been on the couch hardly at all--mostly on the chairs. AND-->when she was just visiting and was on the sofa and the floor, no marking.

I wonder if you sit on the couch a whole lot?

I do.

if so, maybe he's trying to tell you that you're his, and so is your couch?

I think so, he's also been chinning alot.

Unrelated to the specific marking question, but I was curious about the furniture rearrangement. Did you do that for Sophie's sake?

No, it's been in the works for a long time, just finally got around to it yesterday.

What's the story on the couch, is it your special place? If it's where you (and Buz) spend quality time together,

yes, it's our snuggle place.

Flipping the cushion on the day that Sophie arrived...

Sophie arrived on Wednesday when the living room was as it always has been. He started marking some then but nothing like the past couple of days.

IG and e2c - I think it's the cushion flipping. Everything you both said and asked points to that, don't you think so? Sophie likes chairs mostly and he doesn't mark the chairs--only where I sit.

e, remember after I first got him he was doing that alot? Maybe he just needs re-assurance...
Oh, man, jaypo - plesae forgive me for assuming! I haven't had a cat since I was 16, and honestly don't know that much about them, let alone how you're handling both Buz and Sophie. Yipes!
I think you're right, and can also see why he thinks he needs to mark the unmarked side of the cushion.

Just so you know, N. has been re-pooping on things that she long ago claimed as hers - it seems like she has a real need to do that every now and then. Am sure it would be clear to us if we
