[this is good]

aaaaaah all good choices. I've been to Death Valley, in like Feb or March, and yeah, I wouldn't want to go in the summer.

So that would rule out where I just was, too, southwest Texas.

I've never been to Alaska, and in the summer you will get loads and loads of sunlight which would be cool to experience.

I hear Philly is nice in the summer. ;-)

DFW airport is nice.
Alaska, Alaska!
what better time to go?
and you can arrange for a few days stopover in Marin.
actually, I was shocked and really impressed with how awesome the DFW airport is! that monorail thing? The ipod vending machine?
It's like Epcot Center! With Texans!
I've been in Death Valley at the end of June. I can handle southern AZ all summer, but that was ridiculous. It was something like 123 degrees and we were only driving through. We stopped at a rest stop along the way, the feeling of getting out of an air conditioned car and stepping into that heat was overwhelming. So no, don't go there.

Bryce Canyon is supposed to be terrific. My guide at the Grand Canyon said it's his favorite place ever (and he was one of those cool, well-rounded guys who's been everywhere).

Hmmm...but if *I* could go anywheres in the States I would probably do more exploring out West. I am thinking the Portland area would be awesome. If you go off the mainland, Alaska and Hawaii would be my top picks.

I spent a good number of hours in DFW in December, alls I remember is crying and riding the monorail. Oh, and I had a Greek salad. I only remember because I barfed it into my sweatshirt when I thought our plane was gonna crash. :-P
I'd love to go to Hawaii. :) The other choice would probably be to New York, to see a couple of shows and museums, and to people-watch.
Alaska, no question. Think about it, fresh salmon, really, really, really fresh salmon. Mountains, trees, waters, beauty. Best place on earth. It worked for the Simpsons as well. Alaska is where I will go one day...
Well, besides the Rodent Run in Looeyville, I would go to NYC one more time. It rocks in the Spring and I love the energy there.
Have you been to Seattle? I see Valerae recommended Portland, so maybe you could split your time between both cities. It's only about a 3 hour drive between the 2. The weather is getting better and better and everything is in beautiful bloom!

Of course, it depends on what type of trip you want - scenery, touristy, relax on the beachy, etc. Once you narrow down your choices, go to the place you would least likely spend actual money for. I don't mean "Man, you couldn't pay me to go there, thank goodness I'm using points!", I mean a place where it's just a tad out of your cash price range, so you would normally settle for someplace a little closer/cheaper.

Hawaii! Summer in Alaska can be cool and wet (like northern BC). Or you can fly to Seattle and then drive to Vancouver/Victoria. Or fly to Plattsburgh, NY and come visit me in Montreal and Quebec City!

Yeah, it depends on the kind of vacation you want. Seattle would be cool, and you could also take a ferry out to Friday Harbor. That's super pretty.

I'd love to check out Portland, too. I hear there's great beer. NYC is always a good bet, but have you been to Boston? That's fun, too.

Oh, and why don't you guys use those points for, saaaaaaayyyy, a vox get together! Or is the airline not expected to last that long? lol
I'm with BA and Arbed - BA for Plattsburgh (that's just up the Northway from me!). Then there would be Voxxy goodness. Also, this area's great, Cranky and DKN are only a short train-ride away and Jaypo is just off to the East a bit. Maybe I should just vote for Albany. :-) We have a Pork Store!!!
New England in the summertime, or Kauai. Good Lord, that's a long flight though. I hope you have fun wherever you go, and that there are donuts.

Try Moss Landing. One word: otters.

Ignore the power plant, and stay at the Inn right on the marsh. The marsh has wild bunnies.

IG, I think your search is over: you can't beat otters and wild bunnies!
[this is good]

I lived & still have family on Oahu, so Hawaii is always a great choice. BUT, as has already been suggested, you COULD do Portland /Seattle / Vancouver. Butchart gardens on Victoria island are breathtaking. And the Pacific Northwest is glorious in the spring/summer. Its still pretty chilly now but give it 30 days. And its hardly ever uncomfortably hot even in the summer! AND maybe we could "do" lunch! :-D

I think some of my dad's French Canuckian relatives lived in Plattsburgh, is that by the Erie Canal? also I have relatives up near ValPal. not that I'd go visit them or anything.
I love Seattle! Lived there for a year, back in the day. (Near UW.) Portland/Seattle/Vancouver sounds awesome.
No, Plattsburgh is on the North end of Lake Champlain...what's on the Erie Canal? Rochester? Syracuse?
Pork store, LOL! How can I say no to that??
Thank you! Mr. IG's first choice seems to be Hawaii too. :-)
Otters and rabbits and jellyfish, oh my! Squeeee!
Been to South Dakota? Custer State Park, Big headed monuments, cheap hotels, touristy trinkets galore? Nature, camping, big steaks, uh.... yeah, lots of stuff.
Right now, right this week, it is suddenly and beautifully spring in the bay area.
All of our roses are blooming, and the hills are green.
If it's going to be soon, it's lovely here.
Hehe, come visit me in CO! Just kidding. I'd go to Hawaii or maybe back down to visit my Florida friends again. Hmmmm...I also want to go to Yosemite. And a whole bunch of other places
Yikes, Mr. IG and I are deadlocked! :-S
Beautiful pictures! If you took those pictures then you have seen some wonderful places. I will assume were ever you go, you will have a great time.
While I would love to vote for Marin so I can swing by and see you, I would always choose Hawaii myself. The Na Pali Coast is one of the most unbelievable things I have ever seen.
LOL - Mr. IG and I squabbled over this all evening. He came down hard in favor of Kauai (he loves it there), but for a change I didn't budge. I was pushing for Marin (it would be like returning to the womb - honestly I'd probably smooch the ground). We got to the point where for a minute or two we were considering vacationing separately. Here's the thing: Mr. IG was just in the Bay Area five months ago, while I was in Manila for an entire month in December. So, he doesn't feel the need to go back to Marin just yet, and I don't need the tropical beach scene again so soon. I guess there are worse problems to have -- it would be hard to feel sorry for the loser either way.

Splitting the time across multiple destinations is a good solution, as ced, BA, mc2, and others have suggested. I called the airline this morning, and it looks like they will let us do four days in Kauai, then five days in Marin! Wheee!
I'm getting in on this awfully late, but I think the compromise sounds very good.

I'd take Hawaii over Marin as a getaway, though. (Just sayin' ...)
