Travel advice needed!
If you had enough airline mileage points for two round-trip tickets anywhere in the U.S. (including Alaska and Hawaii), where would you go? Assumptions:
1) You want to complete travel as soon as possible (before the airline goes belly-up and all your accumulated points become worthless; and
2) The duration of the trip is fairly flexible - anywhere from one to three weeks would work.
A few favorite places we wouldn't mind visiting again soon:
With the possible exception of Death Valley (which may so hot this time our year as to fry our brains instantly), we probably can't lose by visiting any of the above places again. But it would also be fun to check out parts of the country we haven't visited yet. So, any suggestions? Thanks.

aaaaaah all good choices. I've been to Death Valley, in like Feb or March, and yeah, I wouldn't want to go in the summer.
So that would rule out where I just was, too, southwest Texas.
I've never been to Alaska, and in the summer you will get loads and loads of sunlight which would be cool to experience.
I hear Philly is nice in the summer. ;-)
what better time to go?
and you can arrange for a few days stopover in Marin.
Bryce Canyon is supposed to be terrific. My guide at the Grand Canyon said it's his favorite place ever (and he was one of those cool, well-rounded guys who's been everywhere).
Hmmm...but if *I* could go anywheres in the States I would probably do more exploring out West. I am thinking the Portland area would be awesome. If you go off the mainland, Alaska and Hawaii would be my top picks.
I spent a good number of hours in DFW in December, alls I remember is crying and riding the monorail. Oh, and I had a Greek salad. I only remember because I barfed it into my sweatshirt when I thought our plane was gonna crash. :-P
Of course, it depends on what type of trip you want - scenery, touristy, relax on the beachy, etc. Once you narrow down your choices, go to the place you would least likely spend actual money for. I don't mean "Man, you couldn't pay me to go there, thank goodness I'm using points!", I mean a place where it's just a tad out of your cash price range, so you would normally settle for someplace a little closer/cheaper.
Yeah, it depends on the kind of vacation you want. Seattle would be cool, and you could also take a ferry out to Friday Harbor. That's super pretty.
I'd love to check out Portland, too. I hear there's great beer. NYC is always a good bet, but have you been to Boston? That's fun, too.
Try Moss Landing. One word: otters.
Ignore the power plant, and stay at the Inn right on the marsh. The marsh has wild bunnies.
I lived & still have family on Oahu, so Hawaii is always a great choice. BUT, as has already been suggested, you COULD do Portland /Seattle / Vancouver. Butchart gardens on Victoria island are breathtaking. And the Pacific Northwest is glorious in the spring/summer. Its still pretty chilly now but give it 30 days. And its hardly ever uncomfortably hot even in the summer! AND maybe we could "do" lunch! :-D
All of our roses are blooming, and the hills are green.
If it's going to be soon, it's lovely here.
Splitting the time across multiple destinations is a good solution, as ced, BA, mc2, and others have suggested. I called the airline this morning, and it looks like they will let us do four days in Kauai, then five days in Marin! Wheee!
I'd take Hawaii over Marin as a getaway, though. (Just sayin' ...)
