It does seem to be awesome. It'll take me a while to figure out just how awesome. (I won't have time to read the manual till I get back to the U.S.) My family is the awesomest, however. This particular model was not even in my price range, by any stretch. Maybe they were just sick of me going on and on about phones and figured this was the only way to shut me up. I can't imagine anything cooler. :-D
It'll work at WiFi hotspots and on GSM networks (if, say, AT&T Wireless has a contract & plan you actually want, which lets you use your own smartphone). So, yes, but with asterisks.
European and Asian phones are just so much cooler than US ones, and I know the locking/unlocking can be done, but I also wish we'd just get with the program and let the gadgety awesomeness flow. There was a story about that on Morning Edition the other day...we're so far behind when it comes to cell phone technology.

You're singing my song, Michelle. Our U.S. phones are just embarrassing. My new phone has a 3 megapixel camera, a second one for video calling, and tons worky features. My fifteen-year-old nephew's camera (a Nokia n93) records Youtube-worthy video. My father's phone (a Nokia n95) has a five-megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss lens. The flow of droolworthy gadgetry is so strong here -- I can't imagine ever willingly buying a locked U.S. phone again. When the time comes to upgrade I'll either fly here to pick out my next phone or ask my family to pick something out for me.
I think the camera is respectable but nothing like the nice cameras Nokia puts in their N series phones. It's still a phone cam, sigh.
Last night I walked right past one of the pink sidewalk pee stalls. I got within ten feet of it, maybe less. I even had my new phone with me. And there was someone using the pee stall -- I coulda snapped a pic and run. But I didn't. Because the stench was unbelievable, and all I could think to do was get away from there as quickly as possible. I can't imagine actually posing in or near one of those things. I love you kids, but there is a limit. :-P
I'm enjoying the wi-fi surfing on this particular model. The WLAN finder works perfectly, and the widescreen is really ideal for browsing. I'd hate to go back to a tinier screen. On the down side: the qwerty keys are a bit stiff -- significantly harder to press than the numeric keypad. Why would they be different, that's just weird to me. Oh, and the camera button came off during use like I said in the most recent post. That was really dismaying. A $800-1000 phone shouldn't have buttons that fall off when you press them. I just got through telling everyone I know that Nokias are built like tanks, too!

That said -- I really love my phone. :-)
